One evening this past spring, our family was taking a walk through the park, followed a stream & continued through the path. As we passed by the water, my kids instantly started putting their toes in and splashed around. I sat there and envisioned a photo shoot with my daughter. I said, “Millie…wouldn’t it be fun to take your photos here in this creek?” The golden light was filtering through and it was just beautiful. She was like “Mom! We have to!!” Our summer schedule quickly became full but she didn’t forget. She would bring it up every few weeks & last night our plans were cancelled. So, I told her to go and put on her cream dress & let’s go to the creek. She smiled so big and was so giddy! I love that she still loves doing these sessions with me. Quite honestly, the worst thing about being a professional photographer is that my own children often get neglected when it comes to getting their photo taken. Sure, I have loads on my IPhone, but sometimes dragging out my Canon DSLR just feels like work. But I was reminded last night that in these moments, memories are made. We had fun giggling, getting grossed out by things coming between our toes in the water, and just enjoying the beautiful evening God granted us together. Oh how thankful I am that I get to be the mother of my sweet Millie. She is a true treasure.
These are great portraits. My favourite one is the second one. I love that she’s sitting in the water and not looking at the camera.
